5th ALSP Visayas Confab a success
The ALSP Visayas Regional Board in cooperation with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter and the Central Philippine University, University of Iloilo and University of San Agustin Colleges of Law recently held the 5th Association of Law Students of the Philippines Visayas Regional Conference.
The confab with the theme, 'Law students: Leaders in the forefront of Change' was held from October 28-30 with Central Philippine University and Iloilo Business Hotel as venues.
Activities for the three-day event include provincial tour, lecture/discussion, debate, cultural night search, and group dynamics team building.
Topics in the lecture/discussion were: 'Proposed Amendments to the 1987 Constitution: Their Advantages and Disadvantages' by Atty. Juana Judita Panigbatan-Nafarette, Dean USA College of Law; 'The State of Graft and Corruption and the Legal Measures Taken Against It' by Atty. Raymundo Julio Olaguer, Sandiganbayan Prosecutor; and 'The Role of Law Students in Nation-Building' by Provincial Board Member Rodolfo Cabado.
Aside from the three Law Schools in Iloilo, other conference participants were students from: Aklan Catholic College, University of Bohol, Divine Word College of Tagbilaran, Colegio de la Puricima Concepcion (Capiz), Southwestern University, University of San Carlos, University of Cebu and University of Visayas, Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos, and University of San Jose-Recoletos, all in Cebu, Aquinas University, Divine Word University of Tacloban, Leyte College and University of Eastern Philippines, all in Leyte/Samar, Silliman University, University of St. La Salle (Bacolod), University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and Foundation University, all in Negros.
Meanwhile, the winners in the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest were: 1st Place-Mr. Michael Llorado (Southwestern University), 2nd Place-Mae Ann Montaño (University of St. La Salle) and 3rd Place-Rexter Tupas (University of Iloilo).
Declared winners in the Search for Ms./Mr. ALSP Visayas were: Mr. Alvin Go (University of San Agustin) and Ms. Aries Ligo (Central Philippine University).
