Some nuns are hypocrites

There are selfless nuns who have really devoted their lives for service to God and are either mostly found in the chapel summoning the intercession of the Holy Spirit or in neglected places doing charitable activities for the downtrodden and the neglected.
These are the true servants of the Lord.  But there are nuns who are double-faced; nuns who used their vocation to foment disunity and further their selfishness and intoxicating biases; nuns who don’t practice what they preach; nuns who dip their fingers deep in politics. These are the hypocritical nuns; nuns who don’t deserve an iota of respect from the public.

I refer to the bunch of do-gooder nuns who recently shamelessly shed their apolitical image and joined the belated call for the resignation of President Gloria Arroyo. For whatever reason, I’m tempted to think that they are motivated only by hatred and bigotry; their own brand of idiocy and superfluous arrogance.
They want to reform the society with sheer hyperbole when they cannot even reform the church, all the inanities and injustices committed by their authorities in thy name of the Lord.

Being part of their church, they play deaf, mute and blind to the murderous binge of some of their high priests who have low regard for universal human rights and the right to live in a free world sans sanctions from the sanctimonious spiritual guardians.

I agree with the move of some of my media colleagues who are planning to give our late friend Ivan Suansing a posthumous award for excellence in community journalism. The award is normally given to journalists who have carved a niche in their profession but whose achievements were not immediately noticed due to some circumstances or reasons in one way or another. Ivan stood inches taller figuratively compared to his other contemporaries in media. In the years that I worked with him in Sunstar Iloilo, I noticed that he had the knack of playing chess only with chosen partners.
Before putting to bed the paper, he would see to it that he was able to play some blitz games with his partner Alex Vidal, to the amazement of the reportorial staff, including this writer. By conferring him the posthumous award is our little way of showing the public that we, in the media, know how to value our own talent and pride.

Sometimes the death of somebody familiar to you evokes memories and positivism. As we grow older, we tend to realize that everything in this world is bound to perish and disintegrate into thin air.

We are faced with the grim reality that if our time to go will arrive, we shall go even if we own a great part of the wealth of Imelda Marcos and Bill Gates. No riches can save any human life if our “term of office” has expired in this benighted world. So while still alive, we must endeavor to amend for our sins, make peace with everyone and do way with bitterness and hatred. This call encompasses all the political gladiators in the country, including those who want to suspend Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr.
