Passi honors outstanding senior citizens

The City of Passi honored its ten outstanding elderly citizens, as part of the celebration of the Senior Citizens’ Week,  in a simple ceremony held last Friday.

Leading the awardees are Dr. Avenilo Aventura, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist, and, retired pioneer Director of the Philippine Heart Center, who will be given a Special Award in Medicine for generously extending help to countless Passinhons with heart problems or ailments; Dr. Helmar E. Aguilar, President Emeritus/Founder, Regional Graduate Studies Consortium, Aklan State  University, for initiating the establishment of the first Passi city college; former mayor Ricardo Palmares, for Public Service, whose zeal and dedication to service as Mayor of Passi has changed the lives of his constituents.

The other awardees are Judge Nilo Pamonag for Law, Mr. Silverio Chavez, Sr. for Business and Industry, P/Capt Alfonso Palmares, Sr., Military Service; Dr. Marino Palencia, Medicine, Miss Rosario Solivan, Religious Sector, Mrs. Carmen Palmares vda. De Paginado, Responsible Parenthood and mr. Gerardo Padernal, Agrriculture.

Anna Marie Palmares, City Information Officer said that the awardees were chosen by an Awards Committee composed of retired, independent-minded and credible members of the community.  The affair is made possible by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) under Mayor Elyzer C.
