Gov. Perez 2005 Gawad Parangal Awardee

Antique Gov. Salvacion Zaldivar-Perez has again proven her exemplary leadership after she has been named the 2005 Gawad Parangal Awardee of the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Inc. (ALSWDOPI) that launched the search for outstanding local chief executive in the country.

Gov. Perez, who was informed only last week together with Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lazaro G. Petinglay who is also ALSWDOPI’s Outstanding Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, said that she’s much elated after all the hard-work that they have done for the marginalized and disadvantaged sector in the province.

The lady governor will be given due recognition by the association this coming Oct. 12, 2005 during the 9th National Social Welfare and Development Forum at Fontana Leisure Park in Angeles City, Pampanga because of her exceptional fervor in mainstreaming Social Welfare and Development in her Local Government Agenda and for performing efficiently and effectively.

Gov. Perez, however, said that Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the national government agencies have been so supportive to her administration that she was able to attain such accomplishments.

She further said that the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Petinglay in Antique has been very active in implementing the national program for the marginalized and disadvantaged sector.

Petinglay, according to ALSWDOPI National President Ernesto M. Montecillo, has been recognized for his performance and leadership in the implementation of Social Welfare and Development program.

One of the major accomplishments of the PSWDO that must have merited the award was the organization and extension of full support to the provincial association of Persons with Disabilities that greatly benefited during the Handicap International-Hilwai Rehabilitation Service Campaign launched in March 9, 2005.

It was during this campaign that Persons with Disabilities in the coastal areas of the Province have been identified, assessed and provided with assistive devices. (PNA)
