Young Ilongga shines in USA

A young girl of Filipino parents was awarded a certificate for her outstanding academic excellence under the President's Education Award Program for school year 2004-2005 in the United States of America. She received the award from no less than United States President George W. Bush last May 2005.

The young girl, Therese Margaret Fernandez is a Grade III pupil at the Eileen Connors Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Therese, who is nine years old, loves to sing. She joined the musical show produced by John Rothman, a well-known production director in Las Vegas. The show entitled “The Tapestry” is a 2-hour musical show in commemoration of the Las Vegas Centennial Celebration which was held last May 2005. Therese joined the youth from all areas of Las Vegas and she represented the Fil-Am community during the celebration.
While on vacation here with her  parents last August, she had the oppportunity to be a guest singer at ABS-CBN TV program “Ilongga Ka Day”.

Therese is the eldest daughter of Howell Fernandez, a Registered Nurse from Univesity of San Agustin, Iloilo and Madonna Fernandez also a nurse from Marikina City. Therese has a younger brother Miguel and they both love to stay in the Philippines. Their family resides permanently in Las Vegas, Nevada.
