Guimaras acts on illegal drug trade

If Iloilo City has Brgy. Bakhaw in Mandurriao District as its latest target on government's anti-illegal drug campaign, the Province of Guimaras has similar concerns now.

In fact, Governor Rahman Nava made public its orders for the Guimaras cops to intensify police drive against drug proliferation, trade and use among the islanders.

In a report gathered by The News Today, efforts initiated by the Governor has specifically called on operatives of the Guimaras Provincial Police Office and various municipal police stations to go after ‘druggies' in said-island province.

While no known specifics were readily available on the actual drug scenario, radio reports quoted P/Supt. Edwin Garines, acting Provincial Director of the Guimaras Provincial Police Office as having said that the drug supply are usually sourced out from Iloilo City.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Supt. Garines said the drug supply may well be from the drug groups in the city's waterfront area.  The illegal drug proliferation is believed to have hit all five municipalities of the island-province.

With the start of the strengthened drug campaign, Guimaras cops thus far discovered a number of fully-grown marijuana plants in one hinterland barangay.  No arrests were made though with the owners of said plants yet to be identified by authorities.  The discovery was made in Barangay Tamburong, San Lorenzo with one of the potted marijuana plant about 7 feet tall.

Past news also heard of drug trade that usually targets high-school students.
