POPCOM holds 2005 Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award

The Commission on Population VI has declared the 2005 Rafael M. Salas and Development Award open to qualified applicants/nominees starting this week.

The award which aims to perpetuate the legacies of the late Rafael M. Salas also strives to give honor and due recognition to local government units, local chief executives (governors, city and municipal mayors), institutions and individuals for their outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of population and development.

It further aims to generate support and participation in the implementation of the population management program.

There are two categories for the 2005 Salas Award:  the individual category (from the academe, non-government organizations, people's organizations and media) and the local chief executives category (governors, city/municipal mayors).

The deadline for submission of entries/application for the regional screening is set on October 3, 2005.  Regional winners from both categories will compete in the national level award.
