Lopez scion fights for life after massive stroke

A scion of the famous and powerful Lopez family was rushed to the Iloilo Mission Hospital yesterday (Thursday) after what family insiders said was a massive stroke.

Fernando “Junjie” Lopez Jr., son of the late Vice President Fernando Lopez was reported to be in serious condition and was up for surgery.

No official information was readily available though sources told The News Today he was being closely watched by a cousin-in-law, Sara Peña.  A team of medical specialists were called in to assist and monitor his progress.

Now in his early 70s, Junjie remains a favorite topic in society circles and coffee shops alongside stories of how he lavishly spent his share of the Lopez wealth.

He was once featured on national television and national broadsheets after buying an P8 million limousine from California.  He was also most visible in Iloilo City amongst the Lopezes though of late, his presence was missed in his former favorite hang-out, the coliseums throughout Iloilo.

Text messages circulated within hours of his hospital confinement raising speculations on the severity of his medical condition.  No comment or medical update was made thus far by the immediate family.  ( F. Hibionada)
