POLIBIZ

Too much excitement could be fatal

I would like to forewarn the second highest elected official of Iloilo province not to be overexcited by rumors (was it the propagandists of the official himself who spread it?) that he would soon become the next Junvic Remulla, the vice governor of Cavite who has been designated acting governor owing to the suspension of Gov. Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi.

It appears he has been acting as if he is now the duly-appointed governor and is, in fact, reportedly hosting some secret meetings with his propagandists and selected Capitol employees and municipal officials “to prepare” them in the event of a sudden “twist of fate.”

He must be dreaming if not hallucinating. His ambition (he has lots of it) could be fatal and could boomerang on his face.

As an elected official, he should be the first to embrace humility amid the political turmoil in the country instead of dousing gasoline to the conflagration. It appears that he is dead set to occupy the top post and has been feeding the DOJ chief some garbage just to win the hearts and soul of Malacañang.

This opportunism will not win for this ambitious official any political reward because he, too, will soon be slapped with cases for malversation of public funds and falsification of public docuemtns.

“Basi mauna pa sia sa kangkongan.”

Prime movers of an Iloilo-based group that are asking for the removal of President Arroyo from office have lost their steam.

After several weeks of making a lot of useless and annoying noises in the streets demanding for the ouster of Pres. GMA, they are now starting to splinter.

Why? Because they have no rallying point; they have no credible leader that could gather a big crowd of protesters to support a legitimate cause.

The Ilonggos are already tired of dizzying rallies and street protests in the name of “justice” and “truth.”

What truth? What justice?

The truth is majority of the Ilonggos or Filipinos for that matter are still supportive of Pres. GMA. Only those who are regularly making a noise are claiming that the country is already on the death throes politically and economically mainly because Pres. GMA has refused to step down.

Most Iloilo leaders of the group that wants Pres. GMA out from Malacañang are political butterflies, opportunists and characters with ulterior motives.

They want to advance their own political agenda and camouflage their Machiavellian objectives with “nationalism” and “to be able to discover and to know the truth” using the Hello Garci scandal.
