Rational Insanity

Ten things we will surely regret

Most of the time, we look back at the major things we have done in the past and we notice that there are no things done that should not have been. We try to avoid regret most of the time and often tell ourselves that if we were allowed to live our lives again, we would live it in exactly the same way we did – I don't think so. We have done so many major things that make us proud of ourselves, but we fail to notice that the biggest regret comes from the most minor of things. This week, let me help you reflect on ten most common things we do and don't do almost everyday that we just might regret later on because of the long-term effects. Here they are.

1. Forgot to brush our teeth before going to sleep in the evening. The highest acid concentration in our mouth happens in the evening when we sleep and if we do not clean off the excess food in our mouths in the evening, there is a greater chance of losing those pearly whites later on in life.

2. Carelessly burned our tongue by sipping a steaming hot cup of coffee, tea or soup. Burning our tongue damages our taste buds considerably, so we are most likely to have a dampened sense of taste early in life if we don't take care of our tongues.

3. Forgot to put on sun screen in the morning before leaving the house (even when it's a cloudy day). Our sun is stronger now than it was ten years ago because of our depleted ozone layer. Wrinkles can be caused by exposure to radiation. I'm quite sure none of us would want to look older than our ages.

4. Bit our finger nails instead of clipped them. This causes the position of our teeth to shift and if we do this often we are most likely going to develop a deformed mouth because of teeth that jut out instead of behave in a row, and besides, biting fingernails is very unsightly.

5. Forgot to fill our bodies with the ritual eight to ten glasses of water a day. Water is vital to our existence. We are composed of 60% water and if we fail to nurture our body's fluid needs, we will most likely end up like shriveled raisins later on.

6. Left our used underwear in the hamper for more than a day. Fungi can develop overnight and may be more difficult to remove if we let them stay longer. Even when we wash our underwear after a lengthy hamper stay, we might get fungi into our most intimate parts and develop itchy dermatitis.

7. Forgot to give our scalps the ritual 50-100 brush strokes every day. Brushing releases natural oils in our scalp and nurtures the roots of our hair. We wouldn't want to go bald at 40, would we?

8. Forgot our daily dose of fiber rich food. Aside from the fact that fiber can help in efficient bowel movement, fiber also protects our heart from bad cholesterol and cleans up our blood vessels and arteries.

9. Forgot to eat our breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, forgetting it can be very disastrous to the diet, as we then crave for more food during lunch and dinner.

10. Forgot to pray. You don't have to be religious to pray. Praying is therapeutic because it puts you into a meditative state enabling you to achieve a peaceful state of mind. Very healthy for the emotionally distressed individual. Forgetting to do this once in a while will cause a pile up in excess emotions.

Well, there you have it folks. Don't forget these things and you won't be regretting anything when your reach your 30th year! Good luck!
