High impact programs & projects highlight Nutrition Month celebration

The July 2005 Nutrition Month celebration underscores the government and other concerned sectors' commitment in promoting good nutrition with the launching of high impact nutrition programs and projects.

Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator Rosarie San Luis said just like today (July 29), as part of the culminating activities of the Nutrition Month celebration this year, the Provincial Nutrition Council chaired by Governor Niel Tupas will spearhead different relevant activities geared toward nutrition improvement . This will start with a motorcade from the Provincial Capitol to Tigbauan National High School for the groundbreaking of the Iloilo Milk Processing Plant at Tigbauan National High School campus. The event will coincide with the launching of the “Batang Ilonggo, Palangga Ka” (“BIP KA”) Milk Supplementation Program of the province.

The awarding and recognition of the Outstanding Local Government Units (LGUs) in the implementation of nutrition programs as well as nutritionally improved municipalities in the province for this year will follow in the afternoon at the Provincial Capitol. Awardees will be also given the chance to render testimonial presentations of their activities during the ceremony.

San Luis said that this does not mean that promotion of nutrition shall only be given attention during the month of July rather, it is only being highlighted during this period to further instill nutrition consciousness among the people while maintaining activities all year-round.

Aside from the provincial government officials, expected to attend the activities in Tigbauan are National Dairy Authority (NDA) Administrator Ms. Salvacion Bulatao and officials of the towns of Tigbauan, Oton, Igbaras,Miag-ao, Leon, Iloilo Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (IFEDCO), Department of Education-Iloilo as well as other members of the Provincial Nutrition Council.

San Luis said this year's theme “Batang may kinabukasan, sa wastong nutrisyon simulan” reflects the government's continuing concern for ensuring good nutrition early in life. (PIA)
