Aklan enhances livestock development program

Kalibo, Aklan—The Provincial Government of Aklan as envisioned by Gov. Carlito S. Marquez will push for a holistic, self sufficient and sustainable agricultural development to enhance incomes of Aklanon farmers. As such, programs and projects in agricultural productivity are implemented to achieve this end.

Yesterdays' signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on the Livestock Development Program (Cattle and carabao) between the Provincial Government of Aklan represented by Gov. Marquez, Aklan State University through Dr. Benny Palma, The Philippine Carabao Center represented by Anthony Leal, Mayor Charito Navarosa of Libacao, Aklan and the Department of Land Reform represented by Atty. Daniel Martelino proves this point.

The Livestock Development Program is deemed essential to boost the deficient supply of cattle and carabao stock in the province of Aklan.

The project forged through the partnerships of concerned agencies established by the KALAHI Farmers Center in Aklan is hoped to address this gap. Likewise, through the technical support of the Aklan Sate University and its College of Veterinary Medicine, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian and the Philippine Carabao Center, and the active participation of the farmers in the municipality of Libacao, the promotion and propagation of carabao and cattle as source of draft animal power, meat, milk and other products in Aklan will be enhanced.
