D.P.A. (Straight from the Camp)

My reasons and more
(Last Part)

A three-day seminar on laws and jurisprudence with a team from UP Law Center, Diliman, Quezon City was another opportunity that overwhelmed me. It was really intellectually challenging! The lecturers ranging from a Law professor to retired Associate Justice of Court of Appeals awed me with their expertise and fluency. They delivered with ease and clarity the topics on Criminal Laws, Criminal Procedure, Constitutional Law and other special laws giving emphasis on the provisions necessary in law enforcement.

I did not intend to join that seminar. It was intended to update the more than 260 Chiefs of Police and police investigators in Western Visayas regarding the relevant provisions and jurisprudence on law enforcement. But, since the purpose of my visit at Punta Villa Resort Incorporated did not materialize, the Human Resource and Doctrine Development of Police Regional Office 6 facilitating the seminar invited me to register therein. And, it did not disappoint me. The lectures were enriching and enlightening. They led me to realize that our police officers must be properly oriented with the technicalities provided in our legal system in order to efficiently and effectively carry out their functions. And, I desire the seminar should also be given to the rest of police officers in the country.

To help my siblings is one thing I can't resist. Well, I can only do that at times. Having a family of my own, a time with my siblings and closest relatives becomes too limited. It may be difficult for them to accept but they become only my second priority now. Yes, my wife is the first in the list. But, it doesn't mean that I love them less though. I may not be expressive, but I love them!!!

Well, this is about my sister who asked my help to do her assignment. She is dying, ….I mean, working…, in an NGO that loan out millions but pays too little to its employees. (This is the only non-profit, non-stock, Christian organization, I knew, that is never non-profit, if they can only be Christian enough!)

The point is that my sister works as project officer in this NGO and does her job 18 hours a day. No overtime pay. And the fear of being held up, among the many risks. Yet, she is also pressured to make feature stories of her clients. Note: My sister preferred to do field work because she is only good at convincing people. She can't write. I mean, she is not good at that. But, her office does not understand her predicament. With more than 40 branches nationwide, that NGO never consider to institutionalize an Information Office to do all the writings – feature or otherwise!!! Instead, it burdens too much its employees and still calls its organization Christian!?!

Nevertheless, I'd compromised. I made a feature story for my sister. And, I convinced her to resign!!!

My silence the previous weeks was indeed not a coincidence. There were reasons why I had to put aside writing articles for a while. And now, you know the reasons!
