Susan Roces degrades her status

With the spiraling cost of basic commodities and fare rate, I would like to share to our readers some techniques on how to deflect the crises that have driven some money earners into paranoia and near-suicide mindset owing to abject poverty.

1. Teach your kids how to save their meager allowance. If their school is near your residence, teach them to walk instead of riding. (Many great men women finished elementary and high school sans transportation in the early years of post-war)

2. Buy only what is important. Avoid jewelry items and appliances, if necessary.

3. Prioritize only the WANTS and not the NEEDS. (We NEED foods, cloths, shelter is different from we WANT a new cellphone, a new TV set, a new DVD player).

4. To save electric bills, as family members to sleep early.

5. Stop the vices (gambling, wine, women and song, cigarette, etc.)

6. Save for the rainy season.

In my many years in showbiz working with many film directors, I have encountered so many showbiz personalities with different characters, backgrounders, mannerisms, oddities, inclinations and moral values. I can say with all honesty and candor that not all of them are model personalities or epitome of good moral characters. There are some who really deserved our respect and admiration because of their innate goodness and sterling educational attainment, but there are actresses and actors who really are in the same vein with Dr. Jekyll and Hyde and Bonnie and Clyde. That's why screen idols portray multiple faces in multiple roles and multiple circumstances. That's their job—to assume the role assigned them by the director with paramount goal of entertaining the paying public. That's the business side of entertainment.

That's why when Susan Roces a.ka. “Mrs. Fernando Poe, Jr.” or “Mrs. Poe” for short, branded President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as “arrogant” and called her a “thief” in her fiery but disheveled speech almost a week ago now in Manila, I was not among those who nearly fell off from their seats who heard the transformation of the former demure and low key actress into a fire-spewing anaconda, a woman possessed and overwhelmed by anger and vindictiveness. I have to admit that I used to admire this pretty actress who I had the opportunity to meet in countless showbiz gatherings in Manila in the 70's, but her actuations in that ill-fated press conference where she badmouthed Mrs. Arroyo and asked her to resign immediately, has completely changed my view about her.

She was motivated by hatred and was a pitiful picture as she unleashed tones of molotovs against the incumbent President. I suspect she was only egged by several ambitious and has-been politicians and showbiz scumbags who wanted to use her as a pawn to further their agenda of destabilization and power grab. Susan is no different from other vintage screen personalities, including her late husband who was actually never destined to become president, as emphasized by Justice acting Secretary Raul Gonzalez. She allowed herself to be made as a cannon fodder for the ambition of shadowy opposition stalwarts who are just waiting for the conflagration to erupt into panic proportion and mount mayhem. Because of this, Susan Roces degraded her status as a movie icon and erstwhile paragon of humility and decency.
