JBLCF studes grab top Kayaba crowns


Students of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (JBLCF) won the top three places in this year's Kayaba Langoy, the Guimaras-Iloilo cross channel swim hosted by Aksyon Radyo Iloilo last Saturday, June 25, 2005.

The swimming competition started from Jordan wharf and ended at Fort San Pedro Drive In.

Twenty-year old Albert Gallos of Sitio Sinamay, Salvacion, Buenavista, Guimaras got the first place with a time clocking of 1 hour, 21 minutes and 47 seconds. Gallos won a cash prize of P10,000 plus trophy.

His convoy received a cash prize of P1,500.

The second placer was Sean Mark Rose, 19 years old of Brgy Cuartero, Jaro with a time clocking of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 3 seconds. He received a cash prize of P7,000 plus trophy while his convoy received P700 pesos..

The third place went to Karl Roger Vincent Jayme, 19 years old of Lopez Jaena St., Jaro, Iloilo City who registered a time clocking of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 39 seconds.

He received a cash prize of P5,000 plus trophy while his convoy received 500 pesos.

Five other finishers received P1,000 each while their convoys received 300 pesos each. They are: Leowen Demetillo, 17 years old of Brgy. Camangay, Leganes, Iloilo; Kiefer Ticao, 16 years old of San Antonio, Oton a high school student of CPU; Mark Catalan, 19 years old of Parara Sur, Tigbauan, Iloilo a student of JBLCF; Romeo Demetillo, 44 years old of Camalig, Jaro and Brian Caluba, 19 years old of DB Ledesma St., Jaro, Iloilo City also a student of JBLCF.

The Kayaba Festival fun, however, did not end after the cross channel swim contest Aksyon Radyo and its sponsors presented the Kayaba Sinadya right inside Fort San Pedro Drive-In where lots of fun and surprises await the spectators. The Kayaba Sinadya was enliven by the live music of the 3 rd ID Philippine Army Band.

In the evening spectators were treated to a summer wear fashion show and the finals night of the Search for Mr. and Ms. Kayaba Bodies presented by Uno Productions. Zalde Dofitas and Girlie Ocos were declared as this year's Mr. and Ms. Kayaba Bodies, respectively.

To note, Aksyon Radyo's Kayaba Festival is recognized by the Department of Tourism and the provincial and city governments of Iloilo and the province of Guimaras.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas even declared Kayaba Festival would be included in next year's Visit Iloilo-Guimaras tourism campaign.
