' Alog ' robbers run off with P.3M in Oton heist

A family in Oton, Iloilo lost some P300,000 in cash and valuables to Tagalog-speaking armed-robbers in an incident that had police frenzied over the weekend. With no other further leads to work on, police sources said the robbery-hold up could possibly be an inside job though no confirmation was made on the report as of yet.

The victim, Jose Mondea alerted members of the Oton police upon seeing his house ransacked and thereafter, the family-help gagged and bound in one of the rooms.

Mondea told authorities, he left briefly just before Thursday noon to bring his children to school.  Some two hours later, he was shocked to discover the incident with the family's P152,500 missing, US$2,000, family heirlooms and his bankbook.

It was learned that the woman househelp was left alone at the time the robbers reportedly barged in.  She would later tell probers she saw two men who spoke in tagalog ransack her employer's rooms and did the same to the other bedrooms.  (Florence F. Hibionada)
