Ex-cop, 13 other IRC inmates off to Munti

A former policeman convicted of homicide will finish off his nine to 14 year jail sentence at the Bureau of Corrections (formerly National Bilibid Prison) in Muntinlupa following Thursday's transfer from the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center.

The transfer realized under heightened security measures employed by IRC warden ret. Superintendent Juan Mabugat gathered ex-cop PO1 Bobbit Sanchez and six others with similar homicide convictions.

This, alongside the company of convicted criminals Domingo Elabra, sentenced to life imprisonment for a robbery with homicide conviction, Judy Payas for attempted paricide with a 4 to 8 year jail term and Samuel Capitania for attempted rape slapped with a 2 to 6 year sentence.

The latest batch of 'transferees' also included Fermin Porras who will serve time for some 11 to 22 years in his conviction of attempted rape, PD 1866 for illegal possession of firearms and violation of RA 7610, the anti child-abuse law.

Two in the group had similar convictions of illegal possession of firearms identified as Jomar Deaño sentenced with 4 to 5 years imprisonment and longer penalty for Jully Asajar with 17 to 18 years behind bars while Romy Solomon got 4 to 7 years in an RA 7610 conviction.

The rest in the list shipped for a homicide conviction were Ricky Ganate and Jonathan Velasco, both with 8 to 14 year- sentence, Carlito Braña, Harley Gonzaga and Raffy Mana-ay all with 6 to 12 years and James Vicente with 6 to 14 years imprisonment.

In an interview, Mabugat told The News Today Thursday's Muntinlupa remittance was tasked to a 16-man IRC security escort led by PG2 Rogelio Nono Jr. and jail officer Roy Lujan.
