Police job attracting hordes of applicants

What is it with being a member of the Philippine National Police that attracts hordes of applicants?

“Police job is very attractive nowadays,” Senior Superintendent Arante Pfleider of the Police Community Relations said late last week.

He pointed out that they have already received more than 700 applications-360 more than their quota of only 340- for this year.

The number of applicants clearly shows that the occupation is very attractive and more people are expressing interest in becoming a police, Pfleider said.

“The number turn out was more than what we expected. This clearly shows that more and more people are interested in becoming policemen. In fact, we have applicants who are LLB graduates, and even nursing, commerce, engineering, criminology, mass communication graduates and a lot more,” he added.

Pfleider said that these applications came in before the suspension of the application for new police recruits came.

He said that they have already started the screening of these 700 applicants and confirmed that acceptance of applications will again resume this year as they already have a budget.

He is also positive that more applications will becoming in once they resume acceptance of applications this year.

The Police Regional Office six has received a fax message from the National Police Commission ordering them to stop accepting applications for police hiring until further notice. Efforts are underway to improve the Rules on Screening of police aspirants so as to get only the most qualified and the best applicants for the benefit of the force.

“This is to do away with patronage (in the hiring), and only the best and the qualified can make it,” Cuevas explained.
