Ratings for NAT significantly improves


City elementary and secondary schools here may have recuperated from deteriorating quality of education. This after the Department of Education's (DepEd) showed the raise in rank of Iloilo City in the recent National Achievement Test (NAT).

The NAT examination in Math, English, Science and Filipino was conducted to all grade six and fourth year high school pupils and students of the 17 school divisions in Western Visayas.

The DepEd report showed that Iloilo City's fourth year students got a stunning 47.35 average that placed the city in the 6 th spot. Last year, Iloilo City placed last in the examination with an average of 36.41.

Result in high school are San Carlos City (60.74) Capiz (53.64), Aklan (50.40), Guimaras (48.26), Sagay City (47.93) Iloilo City (47.35), La Carlota City (44.43), Bago City (43.42), Antique (43.00), Kabankalan City (42.97), Iloilo (42.75), Negors Occidental (42.50), Bacolod City (41.57) Roxas City (40.27) Cadiz City (39.58) Silay City (39.49), and Passi City (36.67).

In elementary, Iloilo City raised from ranked 17 th (37.48 average) last year to the 7 th sport with an average of 57.04 this year.

Results in elementary are Guimaras (63.87), Capiz (62.33), Cadiz City (58.79), Aklan (58.15), Iloilo (57.87), San Carlos City (57.49), Iloilo (57.04), Antique (56.43), La Carlota City (54.07), Negors Occidental (53.09), Bacolod City (53.08), Sagay City (50.62), Bago City (50.51), Roxas City (49.73), Silay City (47.40), Kabangkala City (46.68), and Passi City 46.00).

Earlier this year, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas expressed alarmed over the deteriorating quality of public education in this part of the country. Without batting an eyelash, he created a school council that would help uplift the education system here.

Tapped as member of the council are teachers, parents, non-governmental organizations, barangay captains, city councilors and the fourth estate.

“I am very much pleased with the recent result. The increasing trend shows that we are gaining quality education here,” Treñas concluded. (Adora B. Bandorio/PIO)
