D.P.A. (Straight from the Camp)

Be Good, Do Good

Simple it may seem but this philosophy is what is behind the strong leadership of Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Doroteo A. Reyes II. It is reflected in transparent, impartial and excellence-oriented law enforcement unit under his command. General Reyes introduced this secret formula to all the members of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 as indispensable mechanism in keeping abreast not only to the expectation of the public but also to live up with the true character of a real law enforcement officer.

In nearly a quarter of leading the police force in the region, General Reyes has displayed his unparallel competence in placing at active stance the police units against all threats to peace and order. He does not simply receive written reports. He goes out and sees for himself how his orders are being carried out in all levels. He wants his men on the streets, malls, churches, schools, terminals and other areas of convergence to immediately respond a call for police assistance if the need arises. With this, I can deduce that the measure of being good and doing good is no less than the effective and efficient public service.

Many big events, like the IPU assembly in Boracay and the First Gentleman's Cup in Guimaras, have provided the no non-sense General a leeway to showcase his one-of-a-kind leadership style. And still many on-going events, Palarong Pambansa for example, has proved the well-concerted security preparations implemented under his direct supervision and control. In many ways, we have seen his enthusiasm that is so contagious and drives his field commanders to work day and night to render results, not to show off to him but to prove themselves worthy of the responsibility entrusted to them.

General Reyes' philosophy of “Be Good, Do Good” does not only serve as a reminder but also challenges police members to do their shares in the PRO 6's war against criminality, insurgency and other menace threatening public security and economic stability. It is also under this principle that he directs field unit commanders to tightly watch police officers within their folds.

General Reyes is impatient towards the non-performing members and much more unwilling in coddling ill-fitted police officer. Concrete example to this is his uncompromising order to subject Police Inspector Manuel Serra in drastic action for neglecting orders to return to work and face the corruption charges filed against him by PNP Modified SCOUT Class 07-2005. Should Inspector Serra fail to report in PRO 6 in thirty consecutive days, he will be automatically dropped from the rolls. By then, I can infer that Serra has pleaded guilty by unreasonable delay to defend himself. As of this writing, I still give the young officer the benefit of the doubt that he could still present evidence to mitigate his liability, if not his innocence, in the said accusation. So, Inspector Serra, days are running out… be man enough and show the kind of officer you are in the face of trials.

The transfer of training venue for PISOOC and SCOUT courses from Guimaras to Camp Delgado is another indication of General Reyes' endeavor to stop the haunting controversies that involved training instructors. Though it never defies the indubitable truth that death does visit as thief in the night. Nobody knows when and how death is coming! And there goes the story of PO1 Lemuel Lasafin (may his soul rest in peace). But, at least it does not prompt PRO 6 to be placed in the limelight of negative speculations by esoteric critics.

Well, this is just but a beginning of General Reyes' stint. We wait what will he make in a 100 days! We know it well, many leaders did well in the beginning, nothing more but in the beginning!!!
