NCMB – Iloilo: Zero strike for 1st quarter of 2005

The first quarter of 2005 was peaceful with no record of strikes in the province and city of Iloilo from establishments either commercial, industrial or educational institutions that have Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the National Conciliation Mediation Board – Iloilo  (NCMB- Iloilo) of the Department of Labor and Employment said.

NCMB – Iloilo Senior Labor and Employment Officer Josefina Cervantes said the first quarter of 2005 is peaceful just like the same period of last year where there was no record of strikes or even a notice of strike filed in their office.

Based on the record of the NCMB the first notice of strike for this year was filed last April 8, 2005 by the University of San Agustin Employees Union against the University of San Agustin management.

According to Cervantes the said case was settled at their level and is now with the Court of Appeals pending resolution of the case.

The same record showed only three notices of strikes were filed in 2004.  These were filed by Coca – Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc. Labor Union (CIO-ALU) against Coca Bottling Company on June 6, 2004, Iloilo Negros Navigation Employers Labor Union (INNELU) against Negros Navigation Company on August 25, 2004 and Central Philippine University – Rank and File Labor Union (CPU-RAFLU) against CPU management on October 20, 2004.

“All these cases filed in 2004 were all settled amicably”, Cervantes disclosed.

Only two cases of preventive mediation cases were filed with NCMB since January 2005. These were filed by the University of San Agustin Employees Union and the Oro Verde Progressive Federation of Labor in Guimaras.

“Again at our level”, Cervantes said, “these cases were all settled, the Oro Verde workers have already signed their Collecting Bargaining Agreement or CBA.” (PIA)
