Jalandoni bridge inaugurated soon

The multi-million Jalandoni bridge is set to be inaugurated in two weeks.

“We will inaugurate it probably in two weeks time,” Senate President Franklin Drilon told reporters Sunday, shortly after the opening ceremonies of the 2005 Palarong Pambansa.

The inauguration, he added, will either be this month or the first week of June.

Drilon funded the construction of the P47 million bridge through his SARO no. A-02-00817. The 170-meter bridge spans across Iloilo River, from Gen. Luna St. in City Proper to Brgy. Nabitasan in LaPaz.

It is already finished, the Senator said. What's left to be done, he added, is the widening of the access road.

The City Government, Drilon said, encountered delays in the relocation of the informal settlers in Brgy. Nabitasan. But now, all of them have already been relocated, he said.

Construction on the bridge started March 27, 2003. It was supposed to complete by July 26, 2004.

The access road, on the other hand, os 15.75% complete as of April 15 this year.

The P 21 million, half kilometer access road leads to Hechanova street, and is also funded by Drilon.
