Nueva Flora: A stone's throw away from heaven

Ever wanted to find a place deprived of imperfection? A place where everything is calm, still and peaceful and devoid of the melancholic life.

If there is such a place other than that fantasy world, would you go and find it?

Yes, there is such a place, and it's in Barotac Nuevo, less than an hour's drive from Iloilo City.

It's called Nueva Flora. Owned by a family who started a backyard garden in Villa, Iloilo City's flower capital, 30 years ago, it has more than enough space for a flower garden that's complete with all bamboo and palm varieties.

Nueva Flora is a beauty tucked and amid rural farms that is why a stranger could hardly notice it.

Before one can reach Nueva Flora, one has to go through a lot of hardships – that means a river and a not so nice road. But this is what is meant by the saying, “The end justifies the means.”

Imagine Neverland

In James Barry's originally written play “Peter Pan”, Neverland is a place of extraordinary with its fairies and strange creatures; a place where happy thoughts make you fly. Nueva Flora, is one that looks like straight out of the movies: extraordinary land and seascape, waterfalls, pines, scented and unscented trees; flowering, ornamental and tropical plants; all varieties of palms and bamboos; and the rarest of trees. Then there are the domesticated and wild animals roaming.

At the entrance stands Benguet pines, which are only found in elevated or cool places.

Even with the summer heat, the foliage and the flowers appear ‘cool.' The mini waterfalls serves to quench the hydro needs of the plants.

Imported varieties of euphorbias can be found almost everywhere.

Flocking the mini pond are hyacinths and lilies. The blanket of pines and mahogany maintains the fresh air. The fields of bamboo and palm varieties, and Euphorbia all imported from Thailand.
