Dig deeper

There are now two sides to a coin. The first one is that of a purported kidnapping. On the other side is the insistent denial that there never was such incident that took place this year. Which side to believe and why is itself a basis for argument.

In an attempt to defuse a very sensitive situation, Mayor Jerry Treñas and City Police Director, Sr. Supt. Norlito Bautista faced the media over the weekend and denied that a kidnapping took place.

It was during this that Mayor Treñas said that they will dig deeper why the reported kidnapping came about.

By this, the mayor means that they would want to know the person from whom the information was obtained.

If, he said, the persons behind this is known, then the motive for coming out with such an information would also be known.

It is high time indeed that our officials look deeper.

An investigation will once and for all settle the issue of whether or not there was a kidnapping in the early part of this year.

The result, whatever it may be, will serve to soothe the way members of the business community, who are also jittery because of the kidnapping yarn.

If an investigation would point out that there was no kidnapping, then fine.

If it confirms the news, then fine also. In this manner, those who perceived themselves to be kilidnapon can at least be warned of the possibility of them being victimzed by kidnap for ransom groups.
