Sixteen Singaporean students together with their two professors visited the municipality of Concepcion over the weekend to extend help to the Gawad Kalinga Immaculate Conception village in Brgy. Loong.

Peacefulness can be gleaned from the Gawad Kalinga village in Brgy. Loong, Concepcion, Iloilo.

The visit was in time with the 6 th Tampisaw Festival celebration of the municipality of Concepcion.

Mayor Raul Banias said the Singaporeans committed to help the Gawad Kalinga village that now houses 42 poorest of the poor families.

Banias said the visit is already the fourth expedition conducted by the Singapore Polytechnic College and the Singapore International Foundation.

Earlier, the said group funded the small-scale poultry farm as a livelihood for the GK beneficiary families.

This time, Mayor Banias said, the Singaporeans would help in providing electrical connections to houses which do not have power supply yet.

The Gawad Kalinga (GK) project is a priority project of the municipal government of Concepcion together with Couples for Christ and other allied organizations.

It envisions to eradicate poverty in the town of Concepcion.

The Immaculate Conception village which stands in a four-hectare lot of the municipality in Brgy. Loong aims to build 300 houses in three years.

Last March 6 another GK project, the San Lorenzo village in Bakhawan Sur, was launched. It envisions to build 77 houses in the future.

Banias said his administration is fully supporting the project by way of raising funds and looking for sponsors.

He said the GK project is open to all the poor families in his town. All they need, he said, is to help in the building of the houses and development of the site as well.

The beneficiaries shall also commit to embrace the values and culture of GK which promotes a Christian way of living.

The News Today learned that the successful implementation of the GK project in Concepcion has inspired neighboring towns of Ajuy, San Dionisio and Barotac Viejo to embark on similar undertaking soon.
