‘Vagrant' yields P.2 million

A sixteen-year-old arrested for vagrancy in Estancia town yesterday (April 20) dawn yielded hundred dollar bills amounting to over P200,000.

Estancia police chief, Insp. Remeas Alabaren said that patrolling policemen picked up Jacky (last name withheld) along the national highway while he was waiting for the first trip to Iloilo City.

Police recovered $4,655, mostly in $100 denominations, from Yu.

At first, the suspect explained that the bills belonged to his businessman grandfather.

Later during the interrogation, Jacky confessed to robbing Melbert Hardware at the town proper. Other than selling construction materials, the hardware also exchanges foreign currency, Alabaren said.

Jacky gained entry to the hardware by destroying the door locks at around 10 pm Tuesday night, Alabaren said.

“Probably he timed the robbery during a heavy downpour,” the police chief added.

Alabaren said that they believe Jacky is also behind earlier robberies, only that they have no evidence.

Jacky will be charged with robbery.
