The difference between like and love

I know we are all adults and know the difference between like and love, however writing this article is not to say that I know more of the difference more than anybody. When we reach a certain age, we kind of feel our way in knowing the difference but do we really? Maybe, maybe not! This is not something cerebral, it is just a cute way of feeling what really is the difference between LIKE and LOVE.

Isn't it that in front of the person you like, your heart beats faster? But in front of the person you love, you get happy. That in front of the person you love, a rainy day seems like the sunniest of days, but in front of the person you like, rain is just rain. If you look into the eyes of the one you like, you blush. But if you look into the eyes of the one you love, you smile. In front of the person you like, you can't say everything on your mind. But in front of the person you love, you can and you are like the energized battery that keeps going on and on and on. That in front of the person you like, you tend to get shy. But in front of the person you love, you can show your own self, no pretensions. You can't look straight into the eyes of the one you like. But you can always smile into the eyes of the one you love. When the one you love is crying, you cry with them. But when the one you like is crying, you end up comforting. The feeling of love starts from the eye, but the feeling of like starts from the ear. So if you stop liking a person you used to like, all you need to do is cover your ears. But if you try to close your eyes, love turns into a drop of tear and remains in your heart forever... O di ba, cute?

LIKE seems unpretentious and not complicated at all but it is also a cute approach to understanding it that way instead of intellectualizing it. It is easy for us to like a person especially if the qualities we look for a friend or a partner are all there. But love? Love is always one step higher and it becomes complicated every step of the way. When a husband and a wife cannot communicate what they feel for each other sometimes, it becomes complicated because both cannot escape the fact that they have to communicate. Otherwise, what is the whole point of being married to each other? For single people out there who are in a relationship, when one partner is not committed and the other one is 100% committed, we all know it is not fair. Again, what is the whole point of the relationship without commitment? Even with our own families, we have this level of liking and loving each other. We tend to be close to a particular person in the family that somehow jives with our personality and vice versa. Even with friends, we have the same attitude. It is not a bad thing; it is not a wrong thing either. It is just the way it should be.

I would like to believe that in my years of existence, I have liked and loved, and I still continue to like and love. I have love and lost before and the important lesson I have learned from it is I became a better person every time it happens. It may look like a cliché to others but unsolicited advice? You should try it sometimes. No fear, for love is here. Love conquers all as always and so what if you get hurt once in a while. No pain, no gain!

“You can make more friends in a month by being interested in them than in ten years by trying to get them interested in you.”
