Candy Campos
Of versatility and sensibility

"Live life to the fullest", a philosophy of Candy that reflects her love for independent life.

Candy Campos is one versatile and sensible woman I met during the opening of a new restaurant in the city a few months ago.

I believe this unique soul exudes an undeniable charisma and never hesitates to display her amiable nature during a social gathering.

Instantly, she talks so much about her woes, joys and escapades in life that made me say deep inside my heart that…Candy Campos is a rare woman of worth.

Sensible living

Age doesn't matter for Candy Campos, though she felt like getting younger everyday in her life. She, who now resides in Jaro, celebrates her birthday every 18th of September.

She was born to an illustrious clan of Spanish and Chinese lineage.

Her father, a Cebuano and a retired manager of Ismael Steel Corporation, was once assigned in Iloilo , while her mother is a housewife.

One of her brothers is the late Supt. John Campos, the high-profile police officer who was slain a few years ago in Manila and was closely associated to the famous Agent Rose Bud.

Candy finished her elementary and high school studies at Assumption Iloilo.

She studied college at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas, where she took up BS Accountancy.

After graduating from college, she worked in Casa Plaza as a casual bookkeeper, and later as an investment consultant in a Hong Kong-based multinational corporation.

She also had work experiences in several insurance companies, among them the People's General Insurance Company, where she worked for 19 years and was even promoted regional manager and branch manager at the same time.

She also had a stint in fashion and print modeling when she was in her early 20s. She had also posed as commercial model for SuperFerry.

What's more, she nearly auditioned to be an actress for Viva Films, and as a disc jockey for an FM station here in the city but destiny implied that she wasn't meant for these things.

Despite all these, she remained a workaholic and responsible single parent for her three children at the end of the day.

Speaking of her children, they are Teryn Ann, a married 22-year-old Masscom graduate who is now an Assistant Marketing officer in Cabanatuan City ; 19-year-old Carlo Jose who's taking up Computer Engineering; and Romeena Camille, her 6-year-old daughter who is a grade one pupil at Assumption Iloilo.

During her leisure time, Candy would dance, sing her favorite karaoke songs, go to the gym to stay fit, or play badminton or tennis.

She loves movies and film stars a lot.

Her choice movie stars are Ashley Judd, Charlie Sheen, Russel Crowe, Orlando Bloom, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and local actor Dennis Trillo.

She also likes to listen to Jazz and Pop-rock music.

For Candy, being brutally frank means being honest and sincere.

She doesn't want to live with so much pretension, and just wants to reflect her natural attitude of being a woman of adventurous and independent fiber, values she had always wanted to instill in the mind of her children.

Sensible thoughts

Candy as a conversationalist is one tough woman to beat. She has this inner radiance, appeal, vigor and funky humor that would make you say that she did lived life with happiness, amid the miseries, tribulations and tests she went through…

What it's like being me…I'm confident! Every time I stumble, I come back to rise; and I stay happy because I'm not superficial. If people hate me, it's up to them. But I believe I'm self-reliant and independent.

My three unfulfilled dreams are…to have a happy family (you can't be successful in both career and family life), to give justice to my brother's death (Col. John Campos), and to marry a foreigner (laughs).

If I were a famous historical figure I'll be…Joan of Arc because she led brave armies, who we by the way all men, and died for her advocacy.

My reactions to men who battered their wives…get rid of them and teach them a lesson that we are living in a world protected by rights; you're gay if you hurt women (laughs).

What I hate and love about our society today…whew! there's a lot of red tape, corruption, and discrimination that should be stopped, but I love globalization. Through globalization, our children learn to live with computers that make life cozy, and we can unite with people around the world.

At the back of my head I keep on saying…I wish my life will be more thrilling!

My definition of a better person is…someone who never envies other people's feat, contented of what he/she has in life. Someone who doesn't have crab mentality and doesn't annoy his/her neighbors.

My sentiments are touched if…I think of my children, especially my youngest daughter.

Life in 40s is definitely…Exciting, more colorful and more like a vintage wine; you get younger as years pass by.

If I were a cellphone application/function, I would want to be a…camera, coz' I want to keep souvenirs and see how wonderful life is in this world. I can also be a messaging application because I want to correct false messages in texting, especially liars.

My fashion tips that work well…wear plain but sexy attire like haltered sleeveless blouse even if you're wearing denims and please don't apply too much make-up in your face. Instead, just put some powder and lipstick to stay sassy.

My future prediction for myself is…can I still marry a good guy? Well, probably yes, but not in this country, or, shall we say, a foreigner (laughs harder than ever).

My favorite expression is …”Gosh!” am I playing safe? Maybe!
