Leganes presents maiden Panaad Festival

Leganes will present on April 4, 2005 the Panaad Festival, a maiden celebration of the wonders and mysticity of the “Panaad”, a vernacular term that means the devotees' vow of pilgrimage to Leganes ' patron saint, San Vicente Ferrer.

In its maiden celebration, the Panaad Festival-Halad kay San Vicente Ferrer will bring the light the stories of healing brought forth thru the miracles of the town's miraculous winged saint.

The festival will feature nine competing groups or hubon composed of more or less 50 to 60 bona fide students from Leganes public elementary and high schools. The performances will be in the form of dance drama depicting the miraculous works of San Vicente Ferrer and its impact on the life of Filipino devotees.

Apart from Iloilo City 's Dinagyang, Panaad festival strongly discourages ethnic or tribe performances.

The festival is endorsed by the San Vicente Ferrer Parish Church. Leganes mayor Adolfo E. Jaen initiated and conceptualized the festival in order to add zest and color to the fiesta celebration on April 5, this year. A committee headed by Municipal Tourism Officer-designate Jerry Anas facilitates the preparation of this event. (Romela A. Sanggalan)
