Bravery of Filipinos who fought for freedom hailed

The three military attaches who graced the 60 th anniversary of the Liberation of Panay-Guimaras and Romblon Friday last week hailed the bravery of Filipinos who fought “not only for freedom but with love.”

Lt. Steve Walker from the United Kingdom , Major Paul Rosenweig and Group Captain Jim McMillan from New Zealand were tendered with a testimonial dinner by the provincial government. Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Franklin Ednalin accompanied them.

McMillan said that the good friendship of their nations with the Philippines would remain.

He further explained that they have developed a strong foundation and they have learned from the Filipino people who fought for freedom.

Meanwhile, Iloilo Governor Niel D. Tupas said that the testimonial dinner is one way of conveying gratitude of freedom for the allied nations who were behind the Liberation of Panay.

The testimonial dinner was held at the Iloilo Capitol grounds with the presence of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the war veterans and other local officials.

In the morning of that day flag raising ceremony was held at the Balantang Memorial Cemetery National Shrine with Sen. Richard Gordon as guest.
