LMP suggests proper training for schoolteachers

Alarmed with the declining literacy rate of students in the province, the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) headed by Barotac Viejo Mayor Raul Tupas plans to hold a forum in order to know the problems of public schools.

Tupas said that through the forum they would know the problems that need immediate consideration. He explained that the LMP is making some moves in order to help the problem on education

Meanwhile, Miag-ao Mayor Gerry Flores said that there should be enough budget for education in order to address the situation.

He said the local government units should share some amount for education aside from the Special Education Fund (SEF) that comes from the province.

He added that public officials should handle the budget for education properly.

It was learned that the literacy rate among elementary and secondary students in Iloilo is very low.

Recently, the Department of Education ( DepEd ) reported that the literacy rate of Western Visayas is very low compared to other regions in the country.

Tupas noted that the common problems among public schools in the province is the lack of teaching materials like books and training for teachers.

Tupas recently said that teachers should be given proper training so that they would be more equipped in teaching students. He said that teachers should be competent to teach since they are the important factors in educating students.
