Successive fire incidents meet start of Fire Prevention Month

It's getting hot, literally.

And ironically, as March highlights the Fire Prevention Month, the occurrence of fire incidents in the different parts of the region continue to rise.

The famous Boracay Island was again “on fire” as an early morning blaze struck the reception building of Lorenzo Main Beach Resort located in Sitio Manggayad , Brgy . Manok-manok , Malay, Aklan .

Police Regional Office (PRO-6) reported that on March 9, a telephone call was received by the Boracay Special Protection Unit (BSPU) that a fire was on progress at the said place .

“Immediately, BSPU elements led by SPO3 Pablo Sollano responded to the area while informing the personnel of the nearest fire station,” the report stated.

The PRO-6 added that initial investigation conducted revealed that the conflagration started at the ceiling of the building. The fire which started about 3 a.m. was contained within 45 minutes with the efforts of Boracay Fire Protection Unit and volunteer groups.

“The estimated damage was placed at P300 ,000 while investigators are still conducting further investigation to ascertain the real cause of the fire,” the PRO-6 stressed.

To note, a fire razed the Boracay market called Talipapa in January.

Meanwhile, on the same day, a house owned by Pablo Subang , at Brgy . Maipa , Maasin , Iloilo was totally burned with damage cost of some P100 ,000 . Arson investigation revealed that it was due to electrical short circuit.

Further, the report said that on March 5, a two-building poultry owned by Jenia Jarluyan located at Sitio Himaya , Brgy . Dagua Banwa , Valladolid , Negros Occidental was totally gutted down.

The damage is said to be amounting to about P2,000,000 as initial investigation by Bago City fire bureau bared it was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
