Don Sarabia's sage thoughts

For a simple person like Don Sarabia , the world can be seen in various shades and metaphors. Amid life's constant change, still he has the vigor and will to discover what radiant possibilities destiny has bestowed upon his unfathomed journey. So, let me enthrall you and open your heart to the humble yet relevant thoughts of a young man dreaming to make a mark and difference in our society in his own way…

Don's shadow

Salvador Sebastian Sarabia III is a strong-spirited 21-year-old guy who always have big dreams and hope in life. “Don” as often called by his close friends was born on July 26, 1983 here in Iloilo City . His parents are Salvador Sarabia Jr., presently the undersecretary of the Department of Tourism and Ma. Teresa Sarabia , a prolific school administrator. He is the eldest of four siblings. His younger brothers are John Frederick, a second year Business Management student at De La Salle University and Alejandro, a first year college student taking up Business Management course at University San Agustin. His younger sister Mary Margaret Rose is presently second year high school student at St. Joseph High School . Don spent his elementary and high school years at St. Joseph Grade School and Westbridge School , respectively. Previously, Don took Business Management course at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Manila but later on he decided to transfer at St. Therese MTC-College, which they own, and pursue the BS in Computer Science course.

By nature, Don is deeply sensitive, broad-minded, and affable. He gives utmost importance to some of life's intangible realities such as good values, ethics of a person, service to humanity, charity works and friendship. He loves to take care of people, friends and peers close to him who day-by-day showed him reason to smile and believe that life is radiant, full of optimism if we learn to appreciate simple things. He's also a wide reader, wise and knowledgeable about famous leaders, philosophers and sage people of history. In short, he knows a lot but he chooses to be humble.

During his leisure time, he plays the guitar with great melodies or sings his favorite OPM alternative band's eclectic songs like Eraserhead's “Pare Ko ”. He is also a gifted artist who loves to paint landscapes and do portrait masterpieces using his favorite watercolor. In fact, he had gone through many Art workshops at Museo Iloilo.

His favorite film so far is ‘A Beautiful Mind' by Russel Crowe. Alternative music is something that gives meaning to his passion for music that shows why he's fond of Chris Martin of Coldplay , Rico Blanco of Rivermaya and Ebe of Sugarfree band.

Aiming to train himself to become a leader in the future, Don recently joined the Junior Chamber of Commerce International (JCI) Philippines .   By being a member of the organization Don hopes to expose himself to socio-civic works and charitable acts for the society as well as experience fellowship with fellow members weaving precious memories of friendship and bonding.

RL: What makes you happy and sad?

Don: Eating seafood especially at Villa Rosa, watching movies and listening to music make me happy. I feel sad when I lose my temper and hurt others.

RL: What are the three most valuable things in your life?

Don: My music that I play with the guitar given by my lolo Arturo and the latest Coldplay album given by Dad. My drawing table given by Mom and Dad is valuable for it is where I express my interest in arts.

RL: If you were somebody else, who would you want to be?

Don: I would like to be Marco Polo, the famous traveler who influenced early commerce around the world.

RL: What's a perfect day for Don Sarabia ?

Don: In the beach of Boracay with a girl having a romantic conversation from night till dawn.

RL: Do you have a message to young people who are lost and weary?

Don: “Know that your body is the   temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom   you have received   from God, therefore honor God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

RL: For you, who's the most influential artist in your artistic style?

Don: I like Van Gogh's paintings because they stir emotions in me. Their colors are vivid and striking. The themes are ordinary but depicted surrealistically.

RL: What are the three things that people don't know about you but they deserve to know?

Don: I have a good sense of humor because I laugh most of the time. I'm focused because I make sure my job is done. I am a caring person because I give flowers to my parents on Valentines.   

RL: What are the three things you would do for love?

Don: I will travel the distance and find time for the one I love. I will eat all her food so that she won't get fat, just a joke! Well, I'm willing to go shopping with her and carry all her bags though my calluses are hurting.

RL: If you were a ‘thing', what would you want to be?

Don: I like to be an organ. Haha ! Organ, the musical instrument so that I could sing lullabies to my loved ones.

RL: How do you foresee yourself 10 years from now?

Don: I am someone who works for the betterment of myself, my family and my community .

RL: What are the three things you look for a girl?

Don: Well, loving heart, to understand the people I love. Interesting mind, so she and I could have a nice conversation and industrious hands, it's because in life, a couple have to work hand-in-hand together.

RL: What are your three favorite words?

Don: ‘Wow', I would like to encourage people, ‘hello', I like to welcome people and make them feel at home with me. Lastly, ‘please' because I can generate assistance from others.
