Winners in Sumakwelan literary contest known

The winners in the literary contest in Hiligaynon were successfully presented last Saturday at 3:00 p.m. , February 19, at the River Queen Hotel, Iloilo City . Sponsored by Sumakwelan Iloilo, the contest was in the form of “ Malip-ot nga Sugilanon ” (short story) and “ Binalaybay ” (poetry) in Hiligaynon .

Aida Tropa garnered first prize in short story writing with her piece, “ Nahulog nga Bitu -on” and received P5 ,000 prize given by Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr.

Resurreccion Hidalgo placed second with his piece, “ Mainit Pa Ang Tsokolate ” and received P3 ,000 prize given by publisher Marcos Villalon .

Teresita Cababasay landed third with her winning entry, “Sa Likod Sang Gal-um” and received P2 ,000 cash prize from MTCC Judge Nilo Pamonag .

Rolando Gibraltar's “ Igrab sa Dulom ” placed 1 st consolation prize of P500 given by City Councilor Jed Mabilog ; Mae Joquiño's “ Pamanagbanag sa Pagkatawo , was 2 nd consolation prize and received P300 given by Mr. Toribio Gensaya ; Francis Esposo's “ Mga Landong Nga Nalimtan ” garnered 3 rd consolation prize and received P200 from Sumakwelan .

Other participants in the short story contest were “ Kaban sang Manggad ” by Ferolyn Guillermo, “ Luha sang Kalipay ” by Jose Pahilanga , “Tony” by Mariano Ronquillo , “Maria Leonora” by Evelyn Palec and “ Mapait nga Kahapon ” by Delia Jeruta .

Meanwhile, in the Poetry Contest, Ms. Hanna Lee Francis Esposo , nursing student of WVSU won first place for her winning entry “ Anak Man sang Gamhanan ” and received P3,000 from realtor Quin Baterna ; Ferolyn Guillermo, junior Mass Comm student of WVSU bagged second place for her piece “ Nawong ” and received P2,000 cash prize from CPU President Juanito M. Acanto .

“La Ni Onsentemo ” by Rodolfo Gibraltar landed 3 rd place and received P1 ,000 cash prize from Rodrigo Ponte. Other contestants were given Certificate of Participation: Aida Mari Tropa Enuslay , “ Gugmang Panganay ”; Marialy N. Geraldez's entry “ Maghalong ”; kag “ Matuod nga Abyan ” by Andrali Faith Balinas and others.
