‘Paranublion' Fashion Parade
A celestial glimpse of Miag- ao's age-old weaving wealth

Miag-ao's weaving industry has been centuries old and has already penetrated in the hearts of the Miag-aoanons for so long. It reflects the vast richness and wealth of their cultural heritage. This thriving and flourishing weaving industry using the locally sophisticated and classy fabrics such as “ hablon ” and “ patadyong ” continues to awe famous designers around the globe. While, the town itself stands in the limelight of past grandeur and fame with their world-renowned Miag-ao church and the culturally exceptional “ Salakayan ” festival celebrated every first Sunday of February, a fashion extravaganza was organized to further promote the town's weaving wealth… So, make way for ” Paranublion ”.

Epical glimpse of cultural fashion

Paranublion , a Karay -a term that means legacy, was a mesmerizing and culturally significant fashion show spearheaded by the Miag-ao municipal government headed by their prolific mayor, Gerardo N. Flores, with support from the Iloilo Provincial Government, SIPC-WVCST Miag-ao Campus and the innovative Salakayan Foundation.

Unveiling her near-celestial and classically breathtaking wardrobe designs using the local yet globally acclaimed fabric Hablon and Patadyong weaved in this progressive town, was Angellete Borja-Ragus Iloilo's great pride in fashion arena. “ Tita Ette ,” as she is fondly called by almost everyone who knew her, comes from the famous Borja's bridal family in La Paz , Iloilo City . Her achievements reflected her classical and innovative fashion sense as a designer with expertise in dressmaking, pattern-making, floral arrangements, and painting on silk in the United States . She was invited in Vogue Fabrics in Chicago in the late 90s, awed Ilonggo fashion enthusiasts with her various fashion shows   such as SEPIA in 2003, Paseo de Iloilo at Robinson's, Kawayan fashion show at SM City and her astounding involvement in WOW Philippines for Guimaras fashion at Intramuros , Manila as dynamic member of Designer's Guild of Iloilo (DGI). In the evening of Paranublion fashion show last Wednesday, February 2, 2005 Angelette Borja-Ragus ceaselessly filled Miag-ao's public plaza with her masterful fusion of classical fashion style and avant-garde touch out of the two famous local fabrics. Patadyong as an age-old fabric used by our ancestors were celestially weaved into eye-catching attires from casual, formal to evening wears. The glittering hablon fabric that comes in panoramic colors were innovated into a much more trendy apparels for uniforms, street wears, casual clothes and other unique avant-garde creations that project versatility, bohemian influences and contemporary approach. She even unveiled her fabulous and elegant wedding gowns that exude radiant sophistication of her artistic touch. Her hand painted designs showering in well-crafted butterfly and floral inspiration added beauty to the show. Nevertheless, I believe two significant things were carved in the heart and soul of the fashion enthusiast spectators that evening, Miag-ao's centuries-old weaving industry will be the next big thing in the elegant realm of fashion and patadyong or hablon is a fabric for versatility, trend and everyday fashion. For two years this fashion extravaganza in Miag-ao has allured, captivated and inspired people from all walks of life that what seemed to be old is an ageless and priceless treasure.

Parade of fashion mannequins

Paranublion as a fashion legacy for the Miag-aoanons and symbol of ageless wealth resembles the role of fashion in the lives of the local folks. A blissful embrace of the past in a much colorful and radiant perspective that is the promotion and passion for the two local fabrics, hablon and patadyong . Ordinary individuals were given the rare spotlight to wore Angelette Borja-Ragus ' celestial creations and walk the ramp scene with great confidence. Teachers, instructors, students and even young kids from Miag-ao were tasked to invade the center stage side by side with some of Iloilo City 's top fashion models. This reflects the truest essence of fashion as universal, infinite, and a way of life. The versatile pageant director and event choreographer Bombette Marin unleashed his fashion perspective in this unique fashion parade.
