GMA turns over anti-poverty projects for Calinog barangays

CALINOG, Iloilo – President Gloria Macapagal -Arroyo on January 22 turned-over the nine completed sub-projects of the government's poverty alleviation and development program to the villages.

The newly-operational projects are under the Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan -Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services: Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KALAHI-CIDSS: KKB).

These include travelling rice mill for Brgy . Balaticon ; day care centers ( Malaguinabot and Simsiman ); health station ( Canabajan and Banban Grande); school building ( Tibiao ); post harvest facility-warehouse ( Badlan Grande); Water System Level II – communal faucets with water tank ( Guiso ) and post harvest facilities (Bo. Calinog ).

KALAHI is the main anti-poverty program of the Arroyo administration, wherein the people are made to decide what type of project that would bring development in the countryside.     

In Region 6, Iloilo is one of the target areas of the project. It is being implemented in the municipalities of Calinog , Janiuay , Lambunao , Maasin , Barotac Viejo, San Rafael . Lemery , San Dionisio , Ajuy and Carles .

Other areas in Western Visayas are the towns of Dumarao , Jamindan and Maayon in Capiz and Cauyan in Negros Occidental.

KALAHI has a total of 215 sub-projects in the region. These are the 47 road rehabilitation; 38 health stations; 32 Water System Level II; 18 day care centers ; 17 road construction and regravelling ; 15 pre-to-post harvest facilities; 14 school buildings; nine road concreting; seven drainage systems; five hanging bridges; RCDG bridges, irrigation facilities, electrification, pump boat/flat boat and box culvert (two each); mini market, break water and artificial coral reef (one each).
