Flood control project to go on

The people of Iloilo City need not worry anymore. The Iloilo Flood Control Project would go on as planned. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced during the launching of Bantay Bata 163 at the Lopez Boat House, where President Arroyo was special guest, that the president assured him that the multi-million floodway project would not be cancelled .

Treñas during his opening remarks for Dinagyang 2005 highlights on Sunday said the president's assurance not to cancel the flood control project is a blessing of the Sto . Nino to the city of Iloilo .

Earlier, it was reported that the government cancelled Phase II of the project because the city lacks the counterpart funding.

Phase I of the project which consist foremost of the development of relocation site is reported by the City Plannig Office to be 100% completed, while the main civil works for Package 1 and 2 of the project is tentatively set to begin early this calendar year 2005.

The environment related components, like the solid waste management, watershed management and Information and Education campaign is reported to be 75% completed.
